The importance of living in the now and learning to say yes.

Yesterday evening we baked gingerbread cookies.

I should have been preparing dinner.

I should have been loading the dishwasher and the washing machine and sweeping the crumbs from the kitchen floor.

I should have been hustling her into the bath and finding fresh jammies for her baby brother

and folding the filled to bursting buckets of clean clothes that have taken up permanent residence in the corner of the bedroom.

But she asked me to make gingerbread men.

And I said yes.

Maybe I can't do it all, but what I can do is make the most perfect slightly burnt and excessively decorated gingerbread men my daughter's ever seen.

Last night before bed she scampered back for a spontaneous second kiss.

To me, that's all the wins I need.
