Beautiful Ordinary Adventures - An excursion to the Geelong Playspace in East Geelong, with Geelong Photographer Michelle McKay

Monday is our adventure day.

The greater Geelong region is overflowing with fun little family friendly parks, playgrounds and spaces, and as relative newcomers to the area, we're busy discovering them all.

So we begin each week with a little excursion, each one leaving us feeling a little more at home in this new city.

When we go adventuring I often take my camera.

I enjoy documenting our little escapades and having a record of the time we spend exploring.

This is such a brief and beautiful time in our lives and the photographs are a tiny reminder that the routine, mundane and seemingly inconsequential moments we so often take for granted are the very reason for all the bustle and the busy during the rest of the week.

It occurred to me after our last trip I should blog our beautiful ordinary adventures so at a later time other parents new to Geelong might discover fresh places through our photographs.

The shots we capture may not always be excellent and they may not always hero the spaces holistically (because photography and parenting tiny humans don't always mesh) but they'll always be real and honest.

They'll tell their own story.

However imperfectly.

Documenting and parenting simultaneously often looks like this. I mean, there's definitely a story here. Right..?

The Geelong Playspace in East Geelong is one of our favourite playgrounds. It's in the heart of Eastern Park, right alongside Geelong's gorgeous Botanic Gardens and we love it because it's fun for all ages - babies and children alike.

The Geelong Playspace is fully fenced (another yay!) and boasts it's very own pirate ship (right?!), as well as swings (including a Liberty Swing), rock climbing wall, musical bridge, maze, sandpit and paths for bikes and scooters.

So yeah, basically it's awesome. A word of warning, though - make sure you bring your mosquito repellant during the warmer months, as Eastern Park tends to get more than its fair share of mosquitoes (boo!).

Oh yeah - we often visit a cafe as part of our adventure, and we often have our besties with us (because friends make everything more fun!).

This week we went to Lucy Locket's 261 in East Geelong.

We love a family friendly cafe and this week's was no exception.

We tramped in out of the wet with a tribe of windblown kiddies in tow and were welcomed with smiles, heartwarming coffee and the most stunning and delicious muffins I've ever seen.

A few of the shots taken at the cafe.

Oh. The gorgeous woman in the shot above? As well as being a straight up wonderful human, she's also The Muddled Bowerbird - a VERY talented local handmaiden and artist. If you have a daughter or a niece, do yourself a favour and check out her vintage inspired, yet refreshingly original girls clothing range. Ahhmazing.

And while we're doing shoutouts, Melbourne family photographer Jessica Mason (My Happiness Photography) has just blogged her latest set of images, and I am DIGGING the moody black and whites she's rocking. Pop on over for a little look!
