My pop turned 94 this week, and I went to visit with him in the home of my mother’s childhood - a place that continues to vibrate with many of my own earliest memories.

To sit again in these rooms brought back pieces of myself I’d forgotten to miss. It was like opening a time capsule, and being met with the many precious relics I’d once carefully tucked inside.

There are stories in this home that belong to me.

They live in the cork flooring, the bathroom tiles, the old toy chest, and the flaps covering the power points that we’d incessantly flick, driving our poppy crazy.

Not all families remain in the homes that contain their earliest memories, so not everyone has the chance to reconnect with tokens of their childhood as an adult.

This is why I believe so fiercely in documenting families at home; these beautiful ordinary spaces form the backdrop to your children’s most meaningful and formative stories.

I know it’s tricky to fully grasp, so take it from this 40 year old little girl: the *real life* photos we make today will soon become a deeply precious piece of your family’s lifelong legacy.

Here’s a few photos of me and my gorgeous pop, and a handful of precious other photos made and edited on my phone (I forgot my camera - silly duffer!).

I’ll be printing and placing them around my home - a daily reminder of who I am, from where I come, the importance of taking the photo, and a little slice of happiness, just for me.

If you’re a resident of Greater Geelong or Melbourne (or anywhere in between!) click here - I can come and photograph your family at home, living your beautiful ordinary life.
